Planning Your Sarlat Stay: 3, 5, 7 or 10 Days, or by Theme

Three days for the essentials, ten to really take your time — or a stay built around one idea, like a girls’ weekend. This page brings together our suggested programmes for planning a stay in Sarlat and the Périgord Noir. For place-by-place detail — distances, price guides, official websites — see our Things to Do in Sarlat page.

Choose the length of your stay

A realistic pace, not a minute-by-minute schedule — each day stretches or shortens with the season, opening times and how you feel.

3 days — The essentials, unhurried

Day 1 · Historic Sarlat, market (depending on the day) and dinner in the centre.

Day 2 · Beynac, Castelnaud and La Roque-Gageac.

Day 3 · Lascaux IV or Gouffre de Proumeyssac, then back to the pool.

5 days — The two valleys

Days 1–3 · As above.

Day 4 · Domme and the Marqueyssac gardens.

Day 5 · Château des Milandes, or a walk or canoeing depending on the weather.

7 days — Discover and slow down

Days 1–5 · As above.

Day 6 · Les Eyzies, prehistory or Vézère-valley villages.

Day 7 · Free morning, market, pool and an evening in Sarlat.

10 days — Time to enjoy it all

Days 1–7 · The 7-day plan above, unhurried.

Day 8 · A quieter village in the Vézère valley, plus a local market or producer.

Day 9 · A slow day: a free morning at the villa, then an afternoon shaped by mood and weather — nature, a craft workshop or a memorable experience.

Day 10 · A last visit to Sarlat market, lunch on a terrace, departure.

Wellbeing

A moment of relaxation can find its place during your stay — a spa treatment or a massage, depending on what is actually available locally at the time. Get in touch before you arrive: we point you to the right address on the day, we never book anything on your behalf.

Memorable experiences

Hot-air ballooning, caving, via ferrata, microlight flights: when the weather and availability allow it, these are the outings our guests remember longest. The “Memorable experiences” button on our activity finder picks them out among everything the region offers.

Find a memorable experience
With friends

A stay with friends follows much the same rhythm as a girls’ weekend, just with more room to improvise: a few must-sees, a good table, and time left unplanned. Pick from our 3/5/7/10-day plans above, or our activity finder, to put together your own.

Girls' weekend in Sarlat: our ready-to-follow programme

4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS MINIMUM

This isn’t a hen party and it isn’t just a night out with friends — it’s a stay with friends in the Périgord Noir, built around 4 days and at least 3 nights together, with good food, relaxation and a little exploration. What follows is our selection, to book directly with each provider: they sell, take payment, confirm and cancel on their own terms.

DAY 1 — ARRIVAL & SARLAT

  • Arrival · Settling in at the villa.
  • Late afternoon · A walk around Sarlat.
  • Evening · Dinner in town, with a drink or a wine bar for those who fancy it.
  • Then · A free evening.

DAY 2 — SARLAT, MARKET & WELLBEING

  • Morning · Sarlat market if your dates fall on a market day, otherwise local producers and food.
  • Midday · Lunch.
  • Afternoon · Your choice — a relaxation moment (massage or spa, subject to a genuinely verified provider), a workshop, a tasting, or another activity.
  • Gentle evening · A fine table, then a drink.
  • Lively evening · Dinner, then a bar or cocktails somewhere open late.
  • Either way · An easy way back, at your own pace.

DAY 3 — EXPERIENCE

  • Morning · A listed village (La Roque-Gageac, Domme) or a castle and its gardens (Beynac, Castelnaud, Marqueyssac).
  • Afternoon · Your choice — craft and pottery, a producer, a tasting, or a memorable experience — hot-air ballooning or caving as an option, subject to weather and availability on the day.
  • Evening · One more fine table, or a quieter evening at the villa.
  • Domme ❤️ Villa Christal favourite
  • Beynac ❤️ Villa Christal favourite

DAY 4 — BRUNCH & DEPARTURE

  • Morning · Brunch if a place is genuinely open on your dates, otherwise coffee or a late breakfast.
  • Then · One last stroll, a small visit, a producer or a garden.
  • Departure.

Three ways to lean days 2 and 3

Days 2 and 3 lean towards relaxation — massage or spa with a genuinely verified provider, and a slower pace.

Food & terroir

Days 2 and 3 lean towards tasting, producers and fine tables.

Memorable experiences

Day 3 leans towards a standout activity — hot-air ballooning as an option, subject to weather and availability, or caving.
